We’re really excited to announce that Newcastle Thunder, Rugby League team are to make Blaydon RFC’s Crowtrees Ground their home, provisionally for the next two seasons.
Newcastle Thunder approached us with the request to find a more suitable location, somewhere where they would feel they would have a home base, with appropriate playing & training facilities, also covering social & business needs.
This approach was welcomed by Blaydon RFC, our ground is a great match to their current needs and following a couple of early season cup matches the venture is seen positively by players and fans alike, as it provides first class facilities and the opportunity for sustainable growth.
We’re looking at this partnership, to improve our facilities for both codes. It’s early days, we know we’ll have issues/conflicts to resolve, so we’re working the path out together, to make this work.
There is great commitment from both leadership teams to make it successful.
From a Blaydon point of view, converting our facilities to support multiple sports, in a time where utilities, rates and overall costs are rising significantly, allows us to ensure we can provide top-class facilities to support Rugby Union, Rugby League and other sports for years to come.
he use of the club during the summer for Rugby Legue makes a lot of sense. Many rugby union clubs successfully share their venue with Cricket Clubs, for this very reason.
We already have Jujitsu hosted at our club and we are looking at opportunities to host other sports within our sizable grounds; sports like Padel Tennis, which is growing in popularity as a partner sport to rugby clubs.
